Home to a variety of indie acts and legends over the years, the renowned Webster Hall continues to soldier on while most of its big club competitors have long since called it a night. Its location at 125 E. 11th Street in the East Village helps, as the club is a welcome retreat for the less studious minded NYU students nearby. The fact that the faux-marble labyrinth which houses Webster Hall doubles as a live music venue also attracts young crowds to its cavernous space with dark corners. In addition to its weekly club nights, the cover-charged theme parties and big-name DJ sets are the main features here.
However, overall the four-story, 40,000 square foot space is capable of attracting a variety of attendees as it serves as a concert venue, nightclub, recording studio and even a corporate events center. The main stage is lined with balcony space on either end with amenities and services that include an underground coat check, a large back-area bar, some side bars and bathroom attendants for the upstairs unisex laboratories. In 2008, Webster Hall opened “The Studio at Webster Hall”, a 300 capacity performance space perfectly suited for smaller bands. Attendees are usually too entranced by the spinning stage lights and gothic chandeliers to notice the usual carnal revelry of the uninitiated, but most importantly, the house sound system’s crisp low end refuses to be ignored. Expect long lines and a tight door scene if you arrive anytime from 11:00pm on
