A report by leading immigration reduction advocacy organization NumbersUSA reveals that the Biden Administration, according to government sources, is preparing to provide illegal aliens with identification cards. Citing an Axios article, the group reports that temporary I.D. cards are slated to be issued to illegal aliens who have been released into the U.S. and are waiting for final decisions regarding their immigration status.
According to NumbersUSA, opponents of the plan claim that it is just an attempt to provide illegal aliens with easier access to housing, healthcare, transportation and other such taxpayer-funded perks.
In the bill funding appropriations for fiscal year 2023, Congress designated $10 million for this pilot program aimed at benefiting illegal aliens by granting them I.D. cards.
NumbersUSA is a nonpartisan immigration-reduction group that mobilizes its members to lobby decision-makers to improve the broken U.S. immigration system. The organization was founded by its President, Roy Beck, in response to two national commissions on immigration issues. One was a bipartisan congressional commission chaired by former Rep. Barbara Jordan, and another was a commission created under presidential authority and chaired by former Sen. Tim Wirth. Both commissions found that reducing immigration numbers towards their historical average was in the best interest of the United States and its authorized residents.
Reporting by Breitbart News reveals that in the period between February 2021 and May 2022, the Biden Administration has set loose more than one million border crossers and illegal aliens into the interior of the country. This figure is around twice the number of the population of the entire state of Wyoming.
The specifics of the I.D. card program are currently unknown. However, Axios reports on its likely provisions as follows:
“Generally, I.D. cards would be provided to migrants not in detention centers who illegally cross the U.S.-Mexico border or others without legal status going through the lengthy immigration or removal court processes.
“The card would likely include a Q.R. code that would provide the enrollee access to court information and documents via an app, the sources said. This could potentially lessen the mounting number of FOIA requests for information about immigration cases.
It would also allow unauthorized immigrants such as asylum seekers to prove — if stopped by authorities — they are already in the immigration system.”
News of this program follows a scathing I.G. report released recently that revealed that around 30% of migrants released into the U.S. in the period March 2021 and September 2021 failed to adhere to their release terms, among which was the requirement to check in with a local ICE office no later than 60 days after release.
Roy Beck, who worked as a journalist covering politics in DC before becoming a policy analyst specializing in immigration and U.S. population issues, founded NumbersUSA to encourage government policies that benefit society by enabling the government to choose the optimal number of authorized immigrants to enter the country. NumbersUSA has more than eight million participants including conservatives, liberals and moderates. Its members are encouraged to lobby public officials to reduce immigration numbers toward traditional levels in order to help current and future generations enjoy a standard of living that isn’t diminished by excessive immigration.
The Washington Examiner reported that Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ) has stated that he is writing up legislation to prevent the Biden Administration from issuing I.D. cards to people entering the country illegally.
The Congressman stated: “They’re illegal, undocumented. The only thing they should be able to access is a trip back across the border. So I’m doing legislation that is saying not one American tax dollar, or for that matter, any American dollar, can be spent for these cards.”
