Marquee is a so-called “ultra-lounge” out in Chelsea, 10th Avenue, between 26th and 27th Street. This trendy nightspot offers the nightlifer an exquisite combo of sophistication, intimacy and most importantly, high energy provided by its amped-up DJ’s and their huge sound systems. Well-known for being one of the top celebrity and uber-rich party spots in New York City, the line outside alone at the Marquee has its own reputation of drama with beefed-up security guards and too-cool-for-school doorman ready, able and willing to evict those not worthy enough to get in from the velvet rope line.
Indeed, outside it’s a scene of the well-to-do and the beautiful hoping and waiting to get past the strict door policy. Inside, the voluminous, two-story space features over-the-top style, thoughtful design and a modest dancefloor ringed by banquettes and punctuated by a dramatic chandelier that changes color with the disco lights. In addition to the main floor there is a second floor lounge upstairs with its own dancefloor and sound system for private parties. To the side of the main floor is the Red Room which offers intimacy and a nice spot for sensual conversation. Open nightly from 11pm to 4am, the Marquee is altogether slick. Every room features excellent service, plainclothes models getting their groove on, a full service bar and the ability to choose your own music depending on which room you’re in—just be patient getting in.
