The Children’s Museum of Manhattan is a great place to spend the day with your kids while you are on vacation. The location was originally founded by Bette Korman, and was called GAME, which stood for Growth Through Art and Museum Education.
The museum was started during a time when the city had hit a rough spot economically, and was rapidly cutting art, music and culture programs in their public schools. It was during this time that a group of motivated parents banded together to put together a museum that would celebrate the art of kids in the city.
The original location for the museum was a small basement location in the Upper West Side of New York. When it was created, there was not all that much funding available to the organizers, but they were able to secure a challenge grant from the National endowment for the Arts.
It was not until the 1980s that the museum was renamed to the Children’s Museum of Manhattan and moved its location. Today, the museum is located on West 83rd Street, and brings in more than 300,000 visitors per year. Many of these visitors are children from a number of the public schools, who often take field trips to the museum.
In recent years, the Children’s Museum of Manhattan has received additional funding and has been able to expand their exhibits to include a media center and an outdoor environmental center. Each location provides children with different opportunities to learn about different subjects. Alongside the educational information, the exhibits also feature artwork.
The museum was also able to strike a deal with Disney, which increased their average visitors. Disney helped the museum to secure funding for an exhibit specialized for children age four and younger, which was named Wordplay.
In 2005, the Children’s Museum of Manhattan was one of 406 different locations that received a $20 million grant from the Carnegie Corporation. The fund was created after a donation by the New York City mayor, Michael Bloomberg.
The museum gives kids a location to visit that makes learning interesting and fun. The museum has strived to teach kids about the world’s most important subjects through a series of games and toys. Many of the works of art double as toys, and are inspired by some of the most popular movies and television shows. It was one of the first locations in the city that targeted kids only, and because of that fact the museum has often had trouble securing funding throughout its history. It has become clear just how important the museum is to kids in the area, and has become a real part of New York history.
