Spending any holiday in New York City is guaranteed to be a memorable experience for the entire family to share. The Fourth of July is one of the most patriotic and vehemently celebrated holidays in the United States. What could be better than enjoying the most patriotic holidays in the most patriotic city? We are stumped as well! New York is the place to be for the July Fourth Holiday.
Be sure to book accommodations well in advance because this time of year is one of the busiest for New York City and hotels as well as other accommodations book up well in advance. If you plan ahead you are assured to have an absolutely amazing trip to remember for years to come.
There are so many things to do in New York City during the July Fourth Holiday that your single greatest task in planning your vacation may be simply deciding what to do and when. There are literally a multitude of different options available before you, some of which are free and others that require a small fee. All of which are absolutely worth the time and effort. The Macy’s Fireworks Spectacular is by far one of the largest events in the city. This coming year will be one of the largest extravaganzas to date. Instead of its usual location over the East River, it will be held on the Hudson River for the second year in a row to commemorate the 402nd anniversary of Henry Hudson’s exploration of the Hudson River. The theme of the fireworks display changes from year to year, and each year tops the last. In addition to fireworks, visitors can enjoy wonderful concerts and choir ensembles such as The New York Pops, and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
So where is the best place to view the fireworks? Try to find an area between 23rd and 59th street. These areas will be extremely crowded so be sure to arrive well before the fireworks are scheduled to start to mark your territory, and be sure to keep an eye on all of your children. If you are traveling with coolers or large bags, just be prepared for them to be searched by one of the many police officers who help to ensure the safety of the crowd. Security has been heightened since September 11th, so this is a necessary evil.
Please treat officers with respect as their job is to protect your life as well as the lives of your children. After the fireworks are over, take the kids back to the hotel and leave them with your (pre-arranged!) baby-sitter so you can yours can go out and enjoy some of the nightlife catered towards the adult crowd. You can be sure to find entertainment to suit any variety of tastes and will leave the city with a feeling of complete satisfaction because of the amazing trip and experiences you had on your trip to New York City.
